Teeth whitening is an aesthetic treatment method that is applied as a result of individuals who have had a color change in their teeth as a result of various external factors and want their teeth to reach a healthy looking and bright white color. The demand for this procedure, which is used frequently by dentists in recent years, continues to increase day by day. The tea, coffee, cigarettes, acidic and highly sugary drinks that we consume frequently cause yellowing of the teeth and thus lose their color. At this point, tooth whitening is preferred to eliminate the color changes caused by various external factors.

 

 

Types of Teeth Whitening;

1.Office Bleaching

The whitening gel applied to the tooth surface is activated by ultraviolet light or laser. In our clinic, laser whitening is applied in order to minimize the treatment time and increase the duration of action. Generally, the desired result is obtained in 1 or 2 sessions.

2. Home Bleaching

Transparent whitening plaques are prepared according to the measurements taken by the dentist. It can be used by putting gels which contains lower bleaching agent (10-15%) than the gel applied in the dental clinic, into the prepared plaques, for an average of 10-15 days for 4 hours or during the night sleep for 8-10 days (until the desired color tone is achieved).

3.Single Tooth Whitening

Darkness can be seen in the color of teeth that have undergone procedures such as root canal treatment. The filling of the root canal treated tooth is removed, the whitening gel is applied and a temporary filling is made on it . Then, the process is repeated every 3 days until the desired whiteness is obtained and then the permanent filling is made.

 

Will There Be Sensitivity After Teeth Whitening?

After the procedure, it is normal to have  sensitivity to hot and cold foods and drinks for 1-2 days. In cases of sensitivity that lasts longer, the sensitivity is removed with procedures such as toothpastes or fluoride application recommended by your dentist.

Is Teeth Whitening Procedure Harmful?

The most important factor in the tooth whitening process is the correct adjustment of the density and the application time of the whitening gel. According to researches there is no harm in whitening applied correctly under the control of the dentist.

 

Things To Be Considered After Teeth Whitening Procedure

It is necessary to avoid acidic or colored foods and smoking for 2 weeks after the procedure. Colored drinks or foods and smoking reduce the teeth whitening effect.

How Long Does Its Effect Last?

Although the effect of teeth whitening varies depending on the diet and smoking, it lasts for 1-2 years.
